Born in New York, Maeve considers herself Native American. She is part Blackfoot Cherokee. Her first appearance on screen was in 2005's short film Liminality. In 2005 she made her debut appearance on big screens in the critically acclaimed comedy drama Transamerica. The same year, her first television appearance came in the episode from Season 4 of Law & Order Criminal Intent. Nadia Decotis became a part of Dick Wolf's Chicago brand Chicago P.D. . The character was played by her until the year 2015. Then, in 2016, she returned to this role on Law & Order Special Victims Unit which is a television show which forms part of Wolf its second-generation franchise. Also, she began playing the role of female lead Julia Wicker in the Syfy drama series based on fantasy The Magicians that year. Stella Maeve was a television actor that had success and she continued acting in independent films. Stella Maeve was awarded the Robert Altman award at the 2013 Film Independent Spirit Awards for her performance in the film Starlet, released in 2012.
